Tunneling works under the Bosporus half completed before the end of 2008
The tunnellers of Mosmetrostroy and Ingeokom, jointly engaged in building an intercontinental hydraulic engineering tunnel in Turkey which is 6 metres in diameter and more than 3 km long, moved under the sea bed across half the Bosporus before the year end. By 18 January they had already achieved 71% of their monthly job, having installed 127 1.2 m wide rings. To reach the finish line under the Asian coast of the famous strait, the tunnel-boring complex made by Herrenknecht has 553 rings more to go.
