The project implemented by Mosmetrostroy for the modernization of the Vladivostok tunnel of the Far Eastern Railway was the first in its category at the international competition "Best Implemented Project of the Year 2019". The event was organized by the International Tunnelling and Underground Association. The winners of the prestigious award were announced on November 18 at the awards ceremony, which was held in Miami (USA) as part of the annual conference of the International Tunnelling and Underground Association.
The winners were determined by an independent jury consisting of 18 recognized international experts in the field of underground space development. At first, 3 finalists in 9 nominations were selected by secret ballot. All of them got the opportunity to present their projects in person in the form of presentations, after which the jury made the final choice. The voting results remained secret until the last.
The finalists of the nomination “Project of the year including renovation (up to €50m)” were realized objects from three countries - Russia, Great Britain and Singapore. According to the results of a vote by experts of the global tunnel community, the Russian project “Modernization of the Vladivostok Tunnel of the Far Eastern Railway” outperformed competing projects and won first place. This is a joint project of JSC Mosmetrostroy and JSC Russian Railways. During its implementation, modern technologies, designs and innovative materials were applied taking into account world experience in the restoration of tunnel structures. The technical solutions proposed by the specialists of JSC Mosmetrostroy made it possible to obtain a fundamentally new multi-layer lining of the tunnel based on old and new structural elements with high operational characteristics.
