On Monday, May 7, members of the Council of Veterans of Mosmetrostroy, young specialists and representatives of the trade union of the organization took part in a commemorative event at the Novodevichye Cemetery. It was timed to coincide with the Victory Day. Activists laid flowers to the graves of builders who became Heroes of Socialist Labor and Heroes of the Soviet Union.
Chairman of the Council of Veterans of Mosmetrostroy Boris Prigoda spoke about the history of the organization, as well as about the outstanding builders - Tatyana Fedorova, who was the first deputy head of the organization from 1961 to 1986, Mikhail Samodurov, he directed Metrostroy from 1933 to 1945, Vasily Polezhaev - the head of Mosmetrostroy 1958 to 1972.
- By Stalin's decree metro constructors were not allowed to go to the front line, because it was necessary to build metro and military facilities. But still many left for the front line as a volunteers, - explained Boris Prigoda.
Separately on the monument to Konstantin Samsonov - the first builder of the Moscow Metro - the activists tied the flags with the symbols of the Victory Day.
- During the Great Patriotic War, Konstantin Yakovlevich was the commander of a battalion, which was one of the first to break into the Reichstag. For this Samsonov was awarded the Gold Star of the hero of the USSR, - added the chairman of the council. - At the Victory Parade in 1965, the Banner was born precisely by him.
Representatives of the Mosmetrostroy also laid red carnations to the graves of Nadezhda Kharlampiyeva, Yegor Abakumov, Yevgeny Primakov, Yury Yakovlev and other prominent people.
