Open Joint-Stock Company Moskovsky Metrostroy is a bearer of the traditions of the Russian metro-engineering school, which started to emerge in 1931, when it became necessary to set up an infrastructure for the implementation of governmental resolution to set up metro service in Moscow.

OAO Mosmetrostoy acts as a general contractor for:
- Construction of metro running, station and escalator tunnels, rail and road tunnels, subways, underground concourses, surface buildings, structures and other facilities
- Installation of electrical substations, cable lines, lighting fixtures, escalators, ventilation systems, pumps, pipelines, services and other facilities of construction projects
- Laying of tracks and third rail, engineering of depot connections, and construction of rail flyovers
- Finishing work of any complexity, including marble and granite facing, mosaic murals, and state-of-the-art decorative solutions
- Manufacture of tunnelling equipment and other machinery for metro-engineering and transport-tunnelling applications
